David West

Mr. David Moorer West is an American retired professional basketball player who played 15 seasons in the National Basketball Association (NBA) and is an advisory member of Side Equity’s Start Up Projects team. He played college basketball for the Xavier Musketeers, earning national college player of the year honors from the Associated Press (AP) and United States Basketball Writers Association (USBWA) as a senior in 2003. West is a two-time NBA All-Star (2008 and 2009) and a two-time NBA champion (2017 and 2018).

In his senior season in high school, West garnered two of the five major college basketball Player of the Year honors, being named AP National Player of the Year and National Player of the Year by the United States Basketball Writers Association. He became the first three-time Atlantic 10 Player of the Year, and was named first-team All-America by the Associated Press in 2002–03. In addition, he became just the third player in Xavier history to surpass 2,000 points and only the second to eclipse 2,000 points and 1,000 rebounds, joining Tyrone Hill.

West was drafted by the New Orleans Hornets with the 18th overall pick in the 2003 NBA draft. On December 13, 2011, West signed a two-year, $20 million contract with the Indiana Pacers. On January 12, 2013, West recorded his first career triple-double with 14 points, 12 rebounds and 10 assists in the 96-88 win over the Charlotte Bobcats. On July 10, 2013, West re-signed with the Pacers to a three-year, $36.6 million contract. In June 2015, he opted out of his contract with the Pacers to become a free agent and signed with the San Antonio Spurs.

On July 9, 2016, West signed with the Golden State Warriors. West emerged as a key bench player for the Warriors, particularly for his skilled passing abilities. Throughout January and February 2017, West missed 14 games with a non-displaced fracture in his left thumb. On March 29, 2017, West recorded a season-high 15 points and a game-high plus-23 in a large comeback win against the San Antonio Spurs. The Warriors finished the season as the first seed in the West with a 67–15 record. Following a 129–115 victory in Game 4 of the Western Conference Finals over the Spurs, the Warriors were undefeated in the first three playoff series, reaching their third straight NBA Finals series. West played in every playoff game, as the Warriors defeated the Cleveland Cavaliers 4–1 in the 2017 NBA Finals. The Warriors’ 16–1 playoff record was the best ever postseason winning percentage in NBA history.

On July 25, 2017, after winning his first championship ring, West re-signed with the Warriors for one more year with expectations to retire after the 2017–18 season. On January 8, 2018, in a 124–114 win over the Denver Nuggets, West became the 127th player in NBA history to play in 1,000 regular-season games. After reaching that milestone, he noted that he might consider signing again for the 2018–19 season, saying, “It all depends on how my body feels. Right now I feel good.” After winning his second NBA Championship, West announced his retirement from the NBA after 15 seasons on August 30, 2018. Dr. Keitumetse Tebogo Mothibeli is a growing leader in the field of science with experience in the medical distribution industry and vast knowledge of the medical industry. She has five years’ experience as a Field Applications – and Product Specialist where her key deliverables were focused on maintaining and developing territorial sales functions in accordance with agreed sales and marketing plans. In 2020 she became a Chief Investment Officer for the Chairman’s Investment Panel where she focused on building and mentoring young and dynamic entrepreneurs into creating sustainable and meaningful business. In 2021 she was earmarked to become the CEO of Crystal Partners – a 100% black owned investment company led by black female professionals. Crystal Partners is aimed at becoming the premier choice partner for global and local companies seeking to establish and expand their footprint on the African continent.

Hon. Mashood Mustapha

Hon. Mashood Mustapha, the Wakilin of Ilorin Emirate and widely known as MM, is a seasoned politician and serial entrepreneur with vast local and international business interests. He was born over six decades ago into the family of Alhaji Usman Mustapha and the late Hajia Hassanat Alarape Mustapha of Isale Aluko, Ilorin West Local Government Area of Kwara State.

Raised by a disciplinarian father – a former Commissioner for Finance in Kwara State during the Second Republic and a respected traditional title holder (Wali) in the Ilorin Emirate – MM imbibed the values of integrity, diligence, and public service early in life. These formative influences shaped his journey into becoming a political juggernaut and an accomplished boardroom guru.

Education

Hon. Mashood Mustapha began his primary education at Baptist Nursery and Primary School between 1968 and 1969 before transferring to Baboko Primary School, where he graduated with distinction. He proceeded to Government Secondary School, Omu-Aran, and later Ilorin Grammar School for his secondary education.

He gained admission into the Kwara State College of Technology (now Kwara State Polytechnic), where he obtained both the Ordinary National Diploma (OND) and Higher National Diploma (HND) in Business Administration. Upon graduation, he completed the mandatory one-year National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) programme in Kontagora, Niger State.

From 2003 to 2004, MM served as Special Adviser on Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs to the then Governor of Kwara State, Dr. Abubakar Bukola Saraki. In 2004, he was appointed Commissioner for Lands and Housing, and in 2005, due to his versatility and strong work ethic, he was redeployed as Commissioner for Agriculture and Natural Resources. Between 2009 and 2011, he served as Special Adviser on Special Duties to the Governor of Kwara State. In 2011, Hon. Mashood Mustapha was elected on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to represent Ilorin West/Asa Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives. He was subsequently appointed Deputy Chairman of the House Committee on Petroleum Resources (Upstream), where he played a key role in legislative oversight and sectoral reforms. His tenure in the House of Representatives was marked by impactful representation and people-oriented interventions.

MM later joined the All Progressives Congress (APC) as a foundation member. In 2015, he was appointed Coordinator of the Kwara State chapter of the Buhari/Osinbajo Presidential Campaign Organisation. His strong networking ability and legislative experience earned him an appointment in 2016 as Special Adviser to the Senate President on Inter-Parliamentary Affairs, Protocol, and Special Duties. In 2018, he resigned from this position to contest the Kwara State governorship under the platform of the APC. He subsequently served as Chairman of the Presidential Campaign Rally in Kwara State in 2019 and as Vice Chairman of the Election Strategy Group for the 2019 and 2023 general elections. Today, Hon. Mashood Mustapha is widely acknowledged as the architect of one of the most formidable political structures in Kwara State.
